Crimson nymphea

Oil/Canvas 70 X 90

A crimson nymphea is the character of this piece. Shades of sundown lighting cast the leaves of water lilies in vibrant red orange colour. The surface of water was done with liquid paint in watercolour technique, creating translucent streams to accurately represent water. Plants themselves were done with palette knife streaks. The painting is dominated by harmoniously complimentary colours - dusty emerald and vivid purple.
